Making a movie without a budget is hard work and indie filmmakers need to exploit every trick in the book if they are to succeed. This concept is taken to its very limit in 1999 comedy Bowfinger where Steve Martin plays a small wig movie producer who comes up with a novel way of getting a hot property actor (Eddie Murphy) whom he can’t afford to star in his latest picture (the peculiarly titled Chubby Rain); trick him into thinking the events of the movie are actually real and then film his reactions!
Upon its cinematic release, Bowfinger didn’t make a whole lot of money at the box office and was considered something of a commercial flop at the time. However, the test of time has been quite kind to Bowfinger, with the film being held in high esteem by most critics. That, coupled with the film’s cult fan base, has led to an upcoming DVD re-release. With the DVD coming out on the 2nd of November, we’ve been given 3 copies to give away to lucky readers.
To be in with a chance of winning a copy of Bowfinger on DVD all you need to do is click around in the Rafflecopter box after the bump. For an extra chance to win, leave a comment under this post telling us what your favourite film about films or filmmaking is.
